Upgrading Your Windows 8.1 Home to Professional Edition
Note: Upgrading Windows 8.1 lets you move from a basic edition to a more advanced one, gaining additional features.
Note: Your documents, installed software, and other files will remain intact during the upgrade. However, it's advisable to back up your data to avoid loss in case of a power failure or other issues.
Follow these steps:
- Open System Properties by right-clicking on the This PC or My Computer icon and selecting Properties.
- In the Windows Edition section, select Get more features with a new edition of Windows to launch the Windows 8.1 upgrade assistant.
- In the User Account Control (UAC) prompt, click Yes.
- Next, click on I already have a product key.
- Enter the 25-character Windows 8.1 Pro product key and press Next.
- Agree to the licence terms and click on Add features.
- After the upgrade completes, you will see the message Thanks, everything's finished and your PC is ready to go. You now have Windows 8.1 Pro installed.
Note: Ensure your work is saved before clicking Add Features, as your PC will restart at least once during the upgrade.
